Statement of Purpose for Economist Position
It is a tall order to strike a balance between equity and efficiency. After all, we all try to maximize our gains but often times we have little understanding in how to achieve it. On one hand, capitalists propose that non-government intervention leads to the most efficient society since it maximizes the total surplus of the market, while on the other hand, egalitarians assert that equitable distribution should trump over private gains since without adequate public goods, the socio-economic disparity will permanently cripple a nation.
